Sussex Grand Prix (SGP) Rules (from 2025)

  1. Runner Eligibility
    • 1.1 Only fully paid-up first claim members of SGP clubs can score (also see point 2.2). The only exception is if a person has a Sussex qualification and their first claim club is outside of Sussex. Any clubs with such members must notify the SGP Membership Secretary.
    • 1.2 Club representatives should supply a list of their club members, together with their dates of birth at the start of the current series, to the Results Co-ordinator. Lists should be updated as members leave or join. Any runners with unknown DOBs will be unclassified (U) until known. No date of birth — no age category.
    • 1.3 It is the responsibility of the club representative and runner to advise the Results Co-ordinator (using the query page on the website) of errors and/or omissions
    • 1.4 Age categories are based on runners’ age on 1st January.
    • 1.5 The minimum age for competing in the SGP series is 16.
  2. Club Eligibility
    • 2.1 See Club Joining Procedure and Club Joining Form.
    • 2.2 Points will only be awarded to members of clubs that have paid SGP subs, no points will be awarded retrospectively, i.e. runners are only eligible to score from the date subs are paid by their club. Clubs joining mid-season will also be eligible from date of payment. Subscriptions for SGP membership become due on 31st December. Clubs that have not paid by 28th Feb will incur a late payment fee of £10 and risk expulsion from the SGP.
    • 2.3 Clubs are required to strictly adhere to EA rules or risk expulsion from the SGP.
    • 2.4 Clubs must be affiliated with Sussex Athletics.
  3. Races
    • 3.1 An England Athletics (EA) Permit is mandatory for races to be eligible for inclusion in the SGP Series.

  4. Race Numbers and Clothing
    • 4.1 Runners must wear a running top that clearly identifies their club.
    • 4.2 Runners who intend to wear sponsored kit/outfits in place of club kit will not be eligible to score for their club team. To score as an open individual they must inform their club representative before the event, who must in turn advise the Results Co-ordinator before the event.
    • 4.3 Runners must only compete wearing the running number officially issued or re-issued to them by the race organisers. There must be no unofficial swapping of numbers.
    • 4.4 Race numbers must not be defaced or folded, and must be clearly visible.
  5. Disputes
    • 5.1 The Results Coordinator shall inform the club representative if any runner does not meet SGP eligibility criteria. If it concerns just a single runner the Results Coordinator will consult the Chair and/or Secretary for information.
    • 5.2 If a dispute involves multiple runners from a club or is otherwise complex and warrants escalation, the Results Coordinator will inform the Chair, or in their absence the Secretary, who will assume responsibility of communication with the club representative for clarification and necessary decision.
    • 5.3 If the club representative wishes to escalate further depending on the above decision, then the Chair / Secretary will consult with at least two other club representatives (plus the Chair / Secretary as required) who are independent to reach a majority decision; the Chair having a casting vote. Any further escalation will require a meeting of the SGP Committee requiring a majority decision, with the Chair having a casting vote.
    • 5.4 Official race results discrepancies should be advised to race organisers on the day, wherever possible.
    • 5.5 After publication of results on the SGP website, any queries should be made via the query page on the website.
    • 5.6 Results will become final 3 weeks after publication.
